Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of PDF Tools at pdf.bnj.app, operated by Hugo Software.
What the service does
Three tools, all running in your browser:
- Compress PDF — re-encodes the images embedded in your PDF and rebuilds the file.
- PDF to Word — reads the text layer of a PDF and rebuilds headings, paragraphs and lists as a
.docxfile. - PDF password — removes a password you already know, removes owner restrictions, or adds AES-256 protection.
What the service does not do
We would rather set expectations plainly than have you discover these later.
- We do not crack or bypass passwords. To remove a password you must know it. The tool is for your own documents. Owner-only restrictions (no printing, no copying) can be removed without a password because the PDF itself does not require one to open the file.
- We do not run OCR. A scanned PDF is a picture of a page and contains no text. Converting it would give you an empty document, so we refuse it and tell you why.
- Word conversion reconstructs layout, it does not copy it. Multi-column pages and table-heavy documents will come out in a different order. Treat the result as an editable draft.
- Compression is not always possible. A file that is already optimised is returned untouched rather than made larger. Some image formats inside a PDF are not re-encoded yet, and we tell you when that happened.
Free and paid
The password tools are free with no limits. Compressing with the "Balanced" preset is free. Converting the first pages of a document to Word is free, and those pages are produced in full — there is no watermark and no crippled output.
A subscription unlocks the Light and Strong compression presets, converting the whole document, and processing several files in a row. Prices and any trial period are shown in the app before you pay.
Your licence code
There are no accounts. After payment you receive a licence code. Keep it: it is the only way to restore your subscription on another device. Do not share it — access is tied to it.
Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel at any time through the payment processor's customer portal, reachable from the app. Cancelling stops future charges; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
If the service did not do what this page says it does, write to us and we will refund you. Where consumer law in your country gives you a stronger right of withdrawal, that law applies and nothing here limits it.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for having the right to process the files you upload into your own browser, and for complying with the law where you are. Do not use the password tools on documents that are not yours to open.
No warranty, and limits
The service is provided as it is. We work hard to make the output correct and we publish honest limits above, but we cannot guarantee that every PDF in the world will process perfectly. Keep your original file. Do not rely on this service as your only copy of anything important.
To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Changes
We may update these terms; the date at the top will change. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
